FOOD
A hamsters diet requires a wide variety, 25+ ingredients is best and most mixes on the market offer some source of protein so there’s no need to substitute with other forms of protein.
HIDES
Hamsters need to be offered several hiding spots to feel safe. Aim for a multichamber hide with an open floor on your deep bedding, plus several other types of hide, at least one added to your sandbath, and other busy locations.

CHEWS
Chews are very important for hamsters dental health. Throughout their lives, hamsters teeth continue to grow, so they need toys to chew on to keep wearing their teeth down.
WHEELS
Hamsters need a smooth running surface and a wheel with a back wall. Cork lined wheels are softer on their feet but plastic wheels are easier to clean if your hamster decides that’s where they’re going to go to the toilet.

You need to make sure the wheel you choose for your hamster is large enough that their back is not curved while they’re running, they need to be as straight as possible. The minimum sizes for wheels are 21cm for dwarf hamsters and 28cm for Syrians. Sometimes, if you have a large Syrian, you will have to upgrade to a 33cm wheel.
SUBSTRATES
Substrates are one of the best ways to offer stimulation for your hamster. We recommend offering at least 2 on top of the necessary sand bath. Substrates are used for different things, digging, nesting and even burrow stability.

ENRICHMENT
