FOOD
A hamsters diet requires a wide variety, 25+ ingredients is best and most mixes on the market offer some source of protein so there’s no need to substitute with other forms of protein.

HIDES
Hamsters need to be offered several hiding spots to feel safe. Aim for a multichamber hide with an open floor on your deep bedding, plus several other types of hide, at least one added to your sandbath, and other busy locations.

Rodipet Multi Chamber Hides are a great addition to all hamster enclosures. It’s necessary to provide at least one and it should be on stilts to keep it from sinking. It also doubles as a platform to hold any heavier items. Most Rodipet items also come with granite to help keep hamster nails trimmed.
ENRICHMENT
Enrichment keeps hamster noses and whiskers happy. Their eyesight isn’t great, so we have to give them things to do that they can smell and feel.
ENCLOSURES
The minimum enclosure dimensions are based on scientific research carried out by a team of German scientists. They found that hamsters thrive when their enclosures meet/exceed the following dimensions:
4000 sqcm internally for dwarf hamsters.
5000 sqcm internally for syrian hamsters.

The Rodipet La Ola Nagarium XXL is suitable for all species of hamster as it provides 6000sqcm internally.
The Rodipet La Ola Nagarium is also suitable for all species but we find Syrians do better in the XXL above. Remember, bigger is always better, never strive for bare minimum.
SUBSTRATES
Substrates are one of the best ways to offer stimulation for your hamster. We recommend offering at least 2 on top of the necessary sand bath. Substrates are used for different things, digging, nesting and even burrow stability.

WHEELS
Hamsters need a smooth running surface and a wheel with a back wall. Cork lined wheels are softer on their feet but plastic wheels are easier to clean if your hamster decides that’s where they’re going to go to the toilet.

You need to make sure the wheel you choose for your hamster is large enough that their back is not curved while they’re running, they need to be as straight as possible. The minimum sizes for wheels are 21cm for dwarf hamsters and 28cm for Syrians. Sometimes, if you have a large Syrian, you will have to upgrade to a 33cm wheel.
